Those searching for information on Will’s picking style and technique may wish to check out Tish & Chip Arnold’s website. Chip is a very good 2-finger banjo picker from northern Georgia, who plays in a style similar to Will’s.  He and his wife, Tish, were very special to Will, and are still very special to the Keys family.

NOTE FROM BILL:  Well, I had rebuilt part of the site, but I received a few emails requesting that I leave this one as it is for a while. So, I will.  I’ll update it if and when I get new information on anything related to Dad. Barbara Scott and I have begun work on Dad’s biography, and I am still trying to tie up some loose ends on the new CD.

Will Keys is considered to be one of the best oldtime banjo pickers in the country. The National Council for the Traditional Arts included him in its Masters of the Banjo tours in 1993, and the National Endowment for the Arts honored him with a National Heritage Fellowship in 1996. In fact, Will Keys' name is likely to come up in most discussions about oldtime banjo pickers. The reason -- Will has a two-finger style that is unique. It is more melodic than a clawhammer style, but much less "technical" than three-finger bluegrass picking.
